Many Nigerians do not appreciate the benefits of living in Nigeria. We have our challenges, but Nigeria has made much progress since 1999. If you as much as touch a police officer in America, you can be legally sent to the next world. No capping. There are more police shootings involving white Americans than African Americans. American police officers literally have a license to kill and use that license liberally.
Our police have gotten much better. During #EndSARS, they acted nobly. #LekkiMassacre was a military affair. Police brutality is on the wane. What seems to be on the up is brutality against the police. Not vice versa.
And our police have shown a commendable willingness to cleanse themselves of rotten eggs, like Abba Kyari and a few other bad apples.
We have more good cops, like the unnamed policewoman who recently was on candid camera gifting socks to students, and policeman, Nura Mande, who returned missing dollars belonging to a female pilgrim in Katsina State.
We have a good thing here, and I urge all Nigerians to please appreciate that our police officers are underpaid and overworked. We don't want to also make them over-slapped.
